The 22-year-old Nordic cyclist, winner of the Tour del Porvenir in 2021, was the new yellow jersey of the Norwegian round, knocking out Belgian Remco Evenepoel, winner of the first stage, followed by Hayter and Remco himself in 1 second.

This is the British Ineos cyclist’s fifth victory of the season, but he has accumulated 14 in his professional career. He knew how to finish a stage with speed complicated by a 4-rider breakaway, but the British squad controlled the final attacks and the sprint sequence for Hayter.

This Thursday will come the third stage, an important mountain day between Gol and Stavsro/Gaustatoppen, with the 175.8 km route ending at high after a 12 km climb at 7.6 per cent.
