City capped its good year at the Club World Cup and Guardiola made history

Date:

Manchester City completed its historic 2013 by winning the Club World Cup for the first time after defeating Fluminense in Jeddah (4-0) in the final. Pep Guardiola is the coach who has won this title the most timesfour, after the two he achieved at FC Barcelona (2009 and 2011) and one at Bayern Munich (2013), most Carlo Ancelotti.

The other side of the coin is represented by Marcelo, that at 35 years old he will not be able to fulfill his dream of achieving his fifth Club World Cup of his career in the team where he was formed, Fluminense, after his four victories at Real Madrid.

Julián scores with his chest ‘like Messi’

Despite the loss of Haaland, De Bruyne and Doku, The final was put in City’s face on 43 seconds after a mistake by Marcelo himself. With both teams tight on their sides, the left back sent a long ball into the no-man’s zone which he took advantage of. Nathan Aké to step into the middle and spawned a thread that, after being diverted by Fabio, rejected the post. Rejection came Julián Álvarez who, with an empty goal, pushed the ball into the net with his chest.

A goal that reminds one Leo Messi also achieved his chest in 2019 and won the Club World Cup in extra time against Estudiantes (2-1), which ended the historic Sextete for Guardiola’s Barça.

Flu agrees with Pep

Receiving this blow soon did not affect Fluminense, who took the ball and agreed with Guardiola, whon said the other day that his game reminds him of the great Brazil of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Fluminense took the ball from their goal in true Pep style and it had 76% ownership at this stage of the match, but he was unable to trouble Ederson in the face of intense pressure from the rival and an unfortunate game almost sealed the final.

Deadly own goal

Rodri put in a great pass between the lines that singled out Phil Foden, which Captain Nino deflected a teammate’s cross into his own goal (27′).

The own goal has already affected Fluminense, plagued by veteran players such as Fabio, Felipe Melo, Ganso and Marcelo, the dominance has become clear to City, although surprisingly Ederson was forced to show off in his only intervention in the first half to take a header from Jhon Arias after a corner taken by Marcelo.

Before the break the goal Fabio, at 43 years old, is the oldest player to play in the final of a Club World Cupavoided 3-0 with a shot from Jack Grealish.

Guardiola did not allow his players to get overconfident and in the second half Fabio kept his team alive again with a double save from a Foden shot and Bernardo Silva’s header from the rebound.

Fernando Diniz, together with the Brazilian coach, He tried to react by withdrawing his veterans, including Marcelo, on the clock. The final pass kept getting lost and it didn’t take long for City to completely shut down the game. Julián Álvarez and Foden switched roles and the Argentine put a cross that the Englishman pushed, close to the goal, into the net (71′).

Rodri retires ‘moved’

Seconds before, Rodri raised the alarm when he received a hard tackle from Alexsander which caused damage to his left ankle. Already 3-0, Guardiola relieved the Spanish midfielder. This was the only reason for concern on the night when City closed a historic cycle with a final goal from Julián Álvarez, who received, cut a defender and determined with an unstoppable cross kick. The ‘Spider’ once again made Haaland forget with two goals and an assist.
