Ludwig Aberg He is the latest star to turn down an offer from LIV Golf. The Swedish golfer, champion of the European Masters in Switzerland and a Fall Series PGA Tour tournament, said he turned down an offer to join the Arab Super League after his great 2023.
“When I look back, I’m sure of my decision,” the young Scandinavian, a member of the European Ryder Cup team in Rome, told SVT Sport. “I will never try to chase money, what I do is compete. I did the right thing,” he added.
Aberg, 24 years old, missed just one cut in 13 tournaments on the PGA Tour in 2023 and earned his first victory at the RSM Classic in November. He also won the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour in September and the Ryder with Europe.
Aberg joins Norway’s Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau as high-profile PGA Tour players who have reportedly turned down LIV Golf’s overtures since Jon Rahm joined the Saudi-backed tour last month.
“I want to play against the best, because I’m a competitive person and I want to compete against the best,” Aberg said. “Unfortunately, (LIV Golf) doesn’t look like that now, it’s a little more fragmented. When I look at the PGA Tour and the competitions there, there’s so much history in all the tournaments…And that’s what’s seen I like it, that’s what I’m looking for. But then you have to respect everyone’s decisions,” he concluded.
Aberg, who attended Texas Tech, is currently ranked 32nd in the Official World Golf Rankings.
