Eight men’s teams (Belgium, Spain, Korea, Ireland, Japan, Austria, Egypt and Ukraine) and eight girls (Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Korea, Ireland, Canada, Malaysia and Ukraine) will fight for three spots in each category for this summer’s Franca event.

The women’s national coach, Carlos García Cuenca, said the players are fully “committed” because there is “nothing more important” than participating in the Games and he also said he was “very optimistic.” He was joined at the presentation by the player María López and the team manager, Raúl Gómez. There was no representative from the men’s team because they were training then.

The event was held in the technical room of the Valencian sports center with the presence of the general director of sports of the Generalitat, Luis Cervera, the councilor of the City Council, Rocío Gil, the representative of Tourism and Sports, Pedro Cuesta, the president of the FHCV , Jesús Gracia and the director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, Juan Miguel Gómez.

Cervera emphasized the “pride” of the Generalitat for hosting the event and highlighted that the women’s handball and men’s basketball events will also be held in the Valencian Community. “I want to send all my support to the Spanish team, the stands will be full and I am convinced that we will see a great competition and a great atmosphere of pure sport like hockey,” he added.

Gil was proud of the “magnificent and prepared municipal facilities” and said the city is “ready” for the event. “We want to enjoy the best hockey in the world and reposition ourselves as a leader in the sport,” he said.

“I want to highlight the importance for Valencia not only that they trust us but also to show that we know how to do this type of events. “We have shown that we know how to organize well-known events and this is another,” he said.
