Official: Dorival Junior, Brazil’s new coach

Dorival Júnior was announced this Wednesday as the new coach of the Brazilian team, replaced the temporary Fernando Diniz, was dismissed last week due to the poor results of the five-time champions, who ended the year in sixth position in the South American qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup.

“Dorival Júnior is the new coach of the Brazilian men’s national team,” said a brief statement in which the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced that the national teamr will be presented at a press conference scheduled for Thursday at the entity’s headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro.

An announced appointment

Dorival Júnior’s departure and his new position were already announced by São Paulo on Sunday, but confirmation from the highest authority in Brazilian football is missing.

Dorival is 61 years old and manages around twenty Brazilian clubs, though His best years were the last, especially at the helm of Flamengo, which he commanded in 2022 and where he won the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores.

Then he went to São Paulo, where he won the Copa do Brasil again last year, in a final against Flamengo, which saw him fired at the end of 2022 despite a great campaign that year.
