The Slovenian Primoz Roglic, triple winner of the Vuelta and winner of the 2023 Giro, is convinced that he can win the Tour de France in his first year at Bora Hansgrohe, a test that would be the “icing on the cake”.
With the new team in focus, Roglic defined his main goals for the season that has just begun, among them one above all, the Tour de France. At 34 years old, the cyclist from Trbovlje does not rule out arriving in Nice this year with the yellow jersey.
“I believe I can win the Tour, we have to do our best without fearing the final result. If we do things right, we can be happy. For me, the Tour de France will be the icing on the cake, the complement to all the successes I already have, but it’s also not an obsession,” he commented.
To face the challenge of the Tour, Roglic will be joined by a team full of quality and experience. Riders like Jai Hindley and Aleksandr Vlasov will not go to the Giro to join the Slovenian in the Tour. It is about countering the potential of teams like UAE and Visma.
The rest of the line-up has not been confirmed, but Roglic expects to have troops such as German Lennard Kämna and Colombian Daniel Felipe Martínez, although both will lead the team at the Giro.
Nico Denz, Danny van Poppel and Matteo Sobrero could also be at the start of Florence on June 29, to protect the four-time grand tour winner on the most complicated stages.
