The day was marked by a 6-man breakaway where Spaniard Joel Nicolau, from Caja Rural, was present. They were no more than 3.40 minutes ahead, controlled remotely by teams of sprint favorites Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and Alexander Kristoff (Intermarché-Wanty), who held on to hunting duties.
In the last circuit the stage is animated. The stretched peloton was in danger of breaking down at any moment, with Evenepoel always attentive, even directing the group’s run. The Belgian crowned the lead at Gimlekollen (1.4 km at 5 per cent), close to the finish line.
When teams of sprinters connected the arrival protocol, the speed became frantic. Dutchman Van Hooydonck tried with another 3km, but was absorbed before entering the high-speed straight, where Haller imposed the law of the strongest.
This Saturday the fifth phase will board the peloton from Flekkefjord to Sandnes on the 181.7 km route.
