Everton and Nottingham Forest could lose points for breaking financial fair play!

Date:

New case of possible deduction of points in Premier League. In this accusation, the Everton is involved again and included in Nottingham Forest have been referred to an independent commission for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability standards (PSR).

Forest, now coached by Nuno, became the third top-flight club to be accused of breaching the league’s financial rules after reporting losses that exceeded the amount allowed over a three-year reporting cycle .

Everton’s case is more serious, already appealing a 10-point deduction related to the 2021-22 season, and also accused of another alleged violation.

Under the rules, both clubs now risk receiving a fine or deduction of points, according to ‘The Athletic’. At the latest, it should be resolved by the end of May. That means both could end the season not knowing whether or not they will lose points, an issue that affects them and other teams.

The response of the two clubs

The Premier League has no rules preventing a club from being punished for alleged breaches in financial years that have already been sanctioned, unlike other governing bodies including the EFL. As a result, and given the Premier League’s new commitment to addressing these matters “during the season”, the club finds itself in a position where it has no choice but to present a PSR calculation that remains subject to change, in waiting for the result. of appeal.

“The club must now defend another complaint from the Premier League involving the exact same financial years for which it has already been sanctioned, before the appeal has even been heard. The Club believes this is due to a clear shortage in Premier League terms.

“Everton can assure its fans that it will continue to defend its position during the ongoing appeal and, if necessary, to any future committee, and the impact on fans will be considered as part of that process.”

For their part, Forest said that ”Nottingham Forest welcomes the statement from the Premier League confirming that the club has now been accused of breaching the league’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

“The club intends to continue to co-operate fully with the Premier League in this matter and is confident of a swift and fair resolution.”
