Anyone who believes that this Premier League is going to be just a matter of two is sorely mistaken. Arsenal showed they have the desire to be champions and the quality to achieve it with a victory as clear as simple against Crystal Palace (5-0).
Roy Hodgson’s team had no chance of getting anything in the game. It is appreciated that it is a vertical duel, with spaces and little hesitation with the ball at the feet. Favored because Palace were cautious in trying to do damage on the counterattack, something they failed to do, leaving Saka, Odegaard, Trossard and Gabriel Jesus more space than usual.
It is worth saying that, far from triumphing because of the few-touch plays that Arteta’s team is accustomed to with their spectators, this time the unexpected star was Gabriel Maghalaes. The Brazilian, with two corner kicks, killed the game. The first was headed by Richards (11′) with power in the opening stages and, shortly before half-time, a header at the far post led to the next goal, although it was scored in Henderson’s own goal when the ball hits the first one. entry (37′).
A deadly advantage for Palace, who hardly worried David Raya. The first time he did it, in fact, was due to a mistake by the goalkeeper in releasing the ball that he himself managed to solve after Lerma’s hit. Furthermore, David Raya was better offensively, as he was the key to the third goal. He caught a cross in the area and saw out of the corner of his eye the unmarking Gabriel Jesus, where he flicked the ball perfectly with his hand to launch a deadly counter-attack which Trossard finished off to finish off Palace (59′).
He looked around the room. And in some cases. Palace broke down in the middle of the field but the defense held on as best they could, always arriving last to keep Odegaard, Saka and co from getting a clean shot. Arsenal looked set to overturn that result, but in stoppage time Martinelli’s pace blew Palace away. The Brazilian, in the space of two immediate transitions (94′ and 96′), closed the game with one hand.
