Ferrari announced this Saturday the appointment of its young talent, Oliver Bearman, as a new test pilotand of Charles Leclerc’s brother, Arthur, as the team’s development driver.
In this way, Bearman, 18 years old (May 8, 2005, Chelmsford, Essex, Great Britain) will join two test drivers already with Ferrari: Giovinazzi and Robert Shwartzman. Having both competed in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Ferrari also wanted to appoint Berman to have an available driver if needed on dates that coincided with the WEC.
Bearman may have been one of those pilots Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz can be replaced throughout the year in case of illness or injury at one or more Grand Prix of the 2024 F1 season if the team so requires.
Berman, one of Ferrari’s talents
It should be noted that Berman was 3rd in 2022 in his first year in Formula 3 and 6th in his first year in Formula 2 last year. The British rider from Prema won 4 rounds last year in the silver class, three of them on Sundays, and earned the opportunity to test at Fiorano with an SF-21 before riding in FP1 in Mexico for Haas, Ferrari engine customer team, and repeat in Abu Dhabi, where he was also part of the test with young drivers.
The young Briton has done enough to persuade Ferrari to add him to the reserve list, and he remains eligible to participate in more FP1 sessions in 2024, either with Ferrari or Haas, as before. Schwartzman.
In its part, Arthur Leclercwhich is not yet in the academy of young talents of Ferrariwas included in the Ferrari lineup as a development driver included Antonio Fuoco and Davide Rigon. These drivers perform “simulator work, car development, set-up work and updates introduced over time.”
“The Monegasque will also compete this year in the Italian GT championship with Scuderia Baldini 27. Antonio Fuoco is racing in the WEC Hyperclass with the number 50 Ferrari 499P, while Davide is racing in the same series, but in the LMGT3 class with Vista AF Corse GT3,” the team highlighted in a statement.
