The Formula 1 announced this Wednesday that he rejected the request to enter the championship of American team Andretti, because, based on their analysis, they consider that it “will not add value” to the competition and they do not believe that it will be “competitive”.
A decision contrary to prior approval the project has from the FIAbut not proven by anyone with commercial competition rights, the FOM.
“Our evaluation process established that having an eleventh team, in itself, would not add value to the Championship. The most important way for a new entrant to add value is by being competitive. And we do not believe that the applicant will be a competitive participant,” the F1 statement said.
“While the Andretti name carries some recognition for F1 fans, our research indicates that F1 will add value to the Andretti brand and not the other way around,” he added.
Furthermore, the statement points out that its entry in 2025 and 2026 is not feasible, because between these periods there will be a change in the regulation and they do not trust that it can develop two competitive cars without previous experience in F1. Of course, they left a door open to 2028.
“We will consider differently a team’s application to enter the Championship in 2028 with a power unit that General Motors, either as a General Motors work group or as its client group, designs all authorized interior parts. In this case, there will be additional factors to consider regarding the amount the applicant will bring to the championship. In particular, about the entry of a new and prestigious original manufacturer of sports equipment as a supplier of power units, “he pointed out.
So far, Andretti has only been able to say these words on social networks: “I’m devastated. I won’t say anything else because I can’t find another word besides devastated.”
