Eun Hee Ji He won Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play this Sunday to secure a spot next week at the US Open. He did it after losing in the final Ayaka Furue 3 and 2 in cooler conditions in Shadow Creek.
Ji, the winner of the 2009 US Open in Saucon Valley, got the last ticket to the tournament after he won sixth win on the LPGA Tour and first since 2019. At the age of 36, Ji became the oldest South Korean winner in LPGA Tour history.
After a windy morning for the semi-finals, the afternoon was more calm in weather. Both players suffered in the beginning. After bogeying the first two par 5 catches, Ji birdied the par 3 8th hole to tie it. He chased from 97 yards for the Eagles on par 5 of 9 and won par four of 10 with par for a 2-up advantage.
Furue got the par 4 11th hole with his lone birdie of the match, and Ji responded by taking the par 4 12th. Ji remained in his lead and walked toward a sealed victory with par on the par-five on the 16th hole, after Furue missed his attempt on par.
In the morning semifinals, hee beat Andrea Lee 4 and 3, and furue she outscored Lilia Vu 2-1. Vu defeated Lee 4-2 in the third place match.
