Mollema will continue on Trek Segafredo until 2026

Date:

the dutch cyclist Bauke Mollema (Groningen, 35 years old), who just finished his 20th grand lap at the Giro d’Italia, will continue until 2026 on Trek Segafredoconstruction which takes 8 years.

I’ve been excited about it from the very beginning, and I can’t imagine I’m anywhere else. I look forward to racing with this team for years to come. I have said this several times, but it feels like family to me, ”Mollema explained.

After so many years of training in America, the double stage winner of the Tour de France and of classics such as Il Lombardía and Clásica de San Sebastián, is comfortable on the Trek.

I know all the staff, all the riders of course, and the sponsors. As riders, it is also part of our job to help Trek develop and improve products not only for us but also for the company. It’s probably a slightly different and more intense relationship than other teams, but I also like being part of our team, ”Mollema said.

As the runner explained, Trek “is a super professional team” that allows him to be completely independent.

After being a professional rider for so many years, I know what to do and the team really trusts me. They give me the space I need when I train at home and they know that when I show up in any career, I am fit and ready. It’s also good to have a little bit of influence on the careers I want to run and work with sporting directors to make a plan to get the best out of me. “

Mollema’s role in the peloton had a comfortable transition that the rider himself imagined.

My role has changed in recent years and will likely change even more in the coming years.. When I came to this group, it was mainly as a GC rider, specifically targeting the Tour. Then I started to focus on one day racing and more recently on chasing stages on grand tours. I like that role and probably, at this point in my career, it suits me a little better than going for the general classification ”, explained Mollema.

For team manager Luca Guercilena, it was an easy decision to offer Mollema the opportunity to continue his career at Trek-Segafredo for an additional four years.

There is no question about keeping Bauke on the team; became a major member of the Trek-Segafredo family. Having him with us for the next chapter of his career gives me confidence that the core pillars of our team will continue to hold us at the top of the cycling world. ”
