Cancer victim Eriksson’s dream will come true

Sven-Göran Eriksson, who announced a few weeks ago that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer, will lead Liverpool in a match of legends next March.

The Swede will thus fulfill one of the dreams of his life, coaching at Liverpool, as he announced when he revealed his illness and said he had a year to live.

At the age of 76, Eriksson will sit on the bench with Liverpool legends such as Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge and there will be players like Jerzy Dudek, Sander Westerveld, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio, Djibril Cissé and Ryan Babel, among others to be announced in the coming weeks.

The match is against a team of Ajax Amsterdam legends on March 23.

The benefits, to the Liverpool foundation

It will be played at Anfield and all funds raised will go to the Liverpool foundation. The two previous legends matches, against Manchester United and Glasgow Celtic, raised a total of 1.45 million pounds (1.7 million euros).

Eriksson managed, among others, teams such as Roma, Benfica, Fiorentina, Lazio and Manchester City and national teams such as England, Mexico and Ivory Coast.
