On February 11, the tragic news of Kelvin Kiptum’s death in a car accident was revealed. And now, a day after the massive funeral and emotional farewell to the world marathon record holder, another very sad news has come to light: the death of another Kenyan marathon runner, the death of Charles Kipsang Kipkorir.
Charles Kipsang Kipkorir passed away unexpectedly just after crossing the finish line of the XXIX Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, a race he led for most of the course. The 32-year-old athlete collapsed as he crossed the finish line at the Molyko stadium.
Kipkorir seemed to be leading the way down the mountain, but he suffered an unknown problem that forced him to stop a few meters away. Finally, he continued the march and reached the final finish line in 16th position. There he fell to the ground.
“We still can’t say what exactly happened. We might think it was a heart attack,” said the governor of Cameroon’s southwestern region.
The medical team present treated him quickly but they could not revive him. We have to wait to know the reason why the marathon runner died, although some media suggest that it could be related to some sudden heart problem like a heart attack.
