The Belgian international was so important to the team that the club wanted to extend his contract until June 2025 more than two years ago. However, in recent days there has been repeated talk of a Saudi offer for the 32-year-old footballer, and at the Etihad Stadium they fear the worst.
But some say one thing and the player wants another. And, according to ‘The Athletic’, De Bruyne will not think too much about going to the Gulf (he already turned down a very good offer last summer) about starting a new adventure in MLS if he decides not to fulfill his contract with the City.
The ‘Citizen’ club could offer him a new (short) deal after 2025 so that the forward can end his career in a big way in Manchester. But none of that is certain and he could change his mind about retiring from MLS. Guardiola himself is not clear about his pupil’s future: “I would love for him to stay here, but it’s something to ask him. I don’t know what will happen.”
