Girona benefited greatly from its return to the First Division. During the 2022-2023 season, the Catalan club was able to reverse its losses from the previous year, from a negative figure of 12 million euros in 2021-2022 to taking a profit of 675,603 euros, according to its financial reports.
This was reported by Palco23, saying that the ‘Gironí’ team almost reached the forecasts established at the beginning of the season, when they estimated the profit of 676,000 euros, which left only 397 euros below the final result.
This positive change is due to the increase in income of the ‘blanc-i-vermella’ entity. Last season, the club generated revenues worth €64.4 million, compared to €16.1 million earned in 2021-2022, which representing four times greater growth than the period in which they participated in the silver category.
The sale of audiovisual rights is the main source of income, generating 44.7 million euros. Other important sources of capital include dynamic advertising, the sale of season tickets and the transfer of players.
After promotion to the elite, the club renewed its contract with CaixaBank as a sponsor and expanded its collaboration with Star. On the Girona shirt front, the club has maintained its agreement with the Catalan brand Gosby, which generated revenue of 7.5 million euros.
It also made a significant profit through the sale of season tickets, with 3.8 million euros, and ticket sales, with 1.9 million euros. The transfer of players like Manu Vallejo at Real Oviedo or Ramon Terrats at Villarreal CF contributed 3.5 million euros to the safe.
In addition to these sources of income, the entity also earns through the sale of merchandising products (767,811 euros), income from friendly matches (141,329 euros) and subsidies (149,238 euros).
But, with promotion, not only income increased, but also expenses. Acquisition costs increased by 24.2% (514,025 euros) compared to 2021-2022, and personnel costs, the most important thing, doubled to 38.3 million euros due to the salaries of the core team, technical staff and social charges. Almost twenty million euros are also allocated to other operating expenses, such as independent professional services and subsidies to other sports entities.
In the near future, even currently due to recent works that have already been seen in the fields of Vilablareix, highlights an investment of 25,000,000 euros in the construction of the new sports city, which will house the City Football Academy Girona.
This investment will be financed in part from the funds allocated to the infrastructure of LaLiga Impulso. The new training facility will serve the men’s and women’s teams, as well as the youth team and youth football.
As the club explained in its accounts, the investments are mainly focused on the creation of the sports team during the 2023 summer market, which decided to renew players with expired contracts and acquire the rights of five main players: Artem Dovbyk, Ivan Martín, Yangel Herrera, Cristian Portugués and Jhon Solís.
