The Colombian Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) was forced leave Paris-Nice after suffering a fall in the eighth and final phase of the solar race.
Buitrago (Bogotá, 24 years old) was one of the victims on another day marked by rain and cold. On the descent of the Cota de Châteauneuf (2a, 5.5 km at 4.5) the Bogotá cyclist fell to the ground, and, after being treated by the race doctors, he abandoned the “race of the day”, in this edition marked by bad weather conditions.
The climber from Bahrain, who won the fourth stage alone on Mount Brouilly, suffered another fall on last Saturday’s stage, but this one without consequences. He was twelfth overall, 2.19 minutes behind the leader.
Buitrago has a total of 5 victories under his belt, 2 of them at the Giro d’Italia.
