Alcaraz: “Today is almost perfect”

Date:

Carlos Alcarazwho triumphed on Tuesday with great authority in his round of 16 match in Indian Wells against the Hungarian Fábián Marozsánwas very pleased with his performance and assured that it was an “almost perfect” match.

“I always say I can be better and play better. But I’m really happy with the way I approached the match.the way I played and my feelings,” he said in a press conference.

“I think I moved well, I controlled the pace of the game. At the most difficult points, at the most difficult moments, at the ‘break’ points, I was able to cope with the speed. Yes, my confidence is increasing,” he added.

Asked what “a perfect match” would be for him, the Spaniard smiled in his response: “There are no mistakes and there is a winning shot in almost every point.”

“No, I’m joking. I would say make as few mistakes as possible. Not failing at every break point, for example. A high percentage of first service. “I would say that could be a perfect match,” he argued.

World number two and current Indian Wells champion, Alcaraz defeated Marozsán (n.58) 6-3, 6-3 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the first Masters 1,000 of the season.

The revenge of a relentless and greedy Alcaraz who last year fell to the Hungarian in a completely unexpected way in the third round of the Rome Masters 1,000 lasted 75 minutes.

His rival will be the winner of the round of 16 match between German Alexander Zverev (n.6), who beat him in the quarterfinals of the last Australian Open, and Australian Álex de Miñaur (n.10).

It was Alcaraz’s third consecutive quarterfinal appearance at Indian Wells, a tournament where he was very comfortable in every way.

“The conditions here suit my game. I feel comfortable on this court and in this tournament. Not only on the track, but also outside. I think it’s very important for players to feel calm, relaxed and feel good off the court. Being able to turn off your mind a little bit, not think about tennis one hundred percent of the time,” he reasoned.

“Here there are things we can do outside the court (…). For me it is playing golf: here I can play very well and a lot,” he added.
