The German Alexander Zverev (number 6 in the world) rose to the Australian this Tuesday Alex de Minaur (n.10) and it will be Carlos Alcaraz’s opponent in the Indian Wells quarterfinals (n.2), who will have a very difficult challenge against the German. Zverev defeated De Minaur by 5-7, 6-2 and 6-3 in two hours and 47 minutes.
Even faster, Alcaraz, the current Indian Wells champion, punched his ticket to the quarterfinals, when he defeated Hungarian Fábián Marozsán (n.58) 6-3 and 6-3 in just one hour and 15 minutes.
Zverev is no ordinary rival for Alcaraz: he is the opponent who has beaten him the most times on the circuit (five). The Murcian has only won three of his eight matches so far.
The last two times they met ended in victory for Zverev: in the quarterfinals of the last Australian Open and in the group stage of the 2023 ATP Finals.
For his part, Alcaraz’s last victory over Zverev came on American soil, when he won in the quarterfinals of the US Open in September.
