Chelsea’s season is going to the FA Cup. Ranked eleventh in the Premier League, the only option to win the title and avoid another blank year is to eliminate Leicester, leaders of the Premiership (English second division), on Sunday at Stamford Bridge and reach the semi- finals.
Now, in the press conference before this cup tie, Mauricio Pochettino revealed that “some Chelsea players didn’t sleep” before the 1-0 extra-time Carabao Cup final defeat against Liverpool at Wembley on February 25.
Back to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-finals
The Chelsea coach believes the high expectations placed in that match affected individual players and led to the defeat. Now his team can return to Wembley to play in the semi-finals of the FA Cupif they eliminate Leicester on Sunday.
“Expectations can be high or low and the mood (of the players) depends on the day,” Pochettino said today, not fearing that the bitter experience could be repeated. “For us, defeating Leicester will be huge because there is a possibility that this team will play at Wembley again.”
“Some players did not sleep the day before the final (of the Carabao Cup), which has to do with experience in these situations and it should be better,” said Pochettino.
And he insisted: “For us, playing in the final and playing in Europe through the FA Cup will be huge.”. “We learned from the experience and the pain (of defeat) even more.”
