The president of France, Emmanuel Macron said this Sunday that Russia will be asked for a ceasefire during the Olympic Games which will be held in Paris this summer.
“It will be requested, yes“said Macron when asked about this possibility in an interview with the Ukrainian television network TCH that lasted more than 23 minutes.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), which suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), reserves the right to make any future decisions on the participation of Russian athletes in the Paris Olympic Games.
Today, athletes who meet certain conditions – not belonging to the Army and not supporting the invasion of Ukraine – are participating in qualifying tournaments for the Paris 2024 Games, but only in individual disciplines and without their national symbols; under the name of ‘Individual Neutral Athletes’.
ROC president Stanislav Pozdaniakov said last week he would not boycott the Olympics despite the IOC’s “discriminatory” view of allowing Russian athletes to participate.
