To this end, since the Windows cycle, it has reduced the number of matches to win a medal and shortened the preparation stages.

The men’s draw will have 12 participants (Sudan from the south, Canada, USA, Japanese, France, Germany, Serbia and Australia) and the last four tickets to appear in the four pre-Olympic tournaments to be held from July 2 to 7 in Piraeus will remain known (Greece), Riga (Latvia), San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Valencia (Spain).

· Pot 4: Winner of the Pre-Olympic Games of Greece, Japan and South Sudan

The draw will decide the three Olympic groups with one limitation: there will be a at least two European teams per group and a maximum three and there will be no representative from Africa, America, Asia and Oceania Zone in the same group.

What will be the tournament format of the Games?

The first stage will consist of three groups (A, B, C) of four teams. After the first stage of three matches, the two best in each group and the two best third parties qualify for the final stage. The remaining four end their participation.

There will be a draw for the quarterfinals and the 8 teams will be divided into four pots of two teams based on the results obtained in the first stage. The two best teams in the first stage form pot D, the 3rd and 4th form pot E, the 5th and 6th form pot F and the 7th and 8th which forms pot G. The teams from D will cross those from G. , those from E with F and teams that have already met in the first stage will not face each other.

The four winners will meet in the semis in a table where the teams in group D will face off against each other. Losers in the quarterfinals will end their participation and the final classification from 5th to 8th will be based on FIBA ranking.
