The Dutch Mathieu Van der Poelworld champion on the road and 6 times in cyclocross, has renewed in Alpecin Deceuninck until 2028, an agreement, according to the current rainbow jersey, “perfect for the continued integration of road cycling, mountain biking and cyclocross”.
Mathieu Van der Poel (Kapellen, 29 years old) had a contract until 2025, but decided to terminate it to extend his contract with his long-time team until 2028.
“This expansion was a logical choice for me. I felt particularly comfortable with the structures of Philip and Christoph Roodhooft from the beginning. I grew with the team and I still feel that we are developing,” said Van der Poel.
The fact that Van der Poel enjoys the freedom to compete in different cycling specialties was key to the renewal agreement.
“Although we’ve had a lot of success together, I’m still hungry. What’s important is the fact that Alpecin-Deceuninck is also multidisciplinary. It’s the perfect team to continue combining road, mountain bike and cyclocross, ” he explained.

For their part, brothers Philip and Christoph Roodhooft are “delighted” by the extension of their engagement with the Dutch star.
“There is no doubt that we are happy with the extension of the agreement with Mathieu van der Poel. We had a long-term plan with him from the beginning. The multidisciplinary vision is an important aspect. Over the years we have shown that our structure and vision work. Like Mathieu, we, as a team, are still hungry for more success,” they said.
Mathieu Van der Poel also signed a 10-year deal as an ambassador for the Canyon cycling brand.
