The United States Executive expressed its “deep concern” about plans to hold a ‘Enhanced Games’ (Enhanced Games) without anti-doping controls and some ‘Friendship Games’ (Friendship Games) parallel to the Olympic Games.
It was during the Annual Symposium of the World Anti-Doping Agency (AMA) held last week in Lausanne, Switzerland, which brought together representatives of International Federations and organizers of major events, as well as athletes, government authorities, accredited laboratories and other sectors that related to anti-doping.
The director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Dr Rahul Guptaparticipated in the meeting and highlighted the efforts of the Joe Biden administration to promote clean and fair competition in sports.
“The United States is a proud partner of WADA, the sports movement and the many governments around the world committed to fair competition,” Gupta said. “Preserving and promoting clean sport is as urgent and important today as it was 25 years ago, when WADA was created. Working together, we will continue to protect international athletic competition from doping and ensure that every athlete has fair competition and a fair chance of winning”.
This Monday, Gupta participated in the meeting of AMA Executive Committeewhere he emphasized his “deep concern” both about the ‘Enhanced Games’ planned for this year and the ‘Friendship Games’ organized by Russia as an alternative to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The ‘Enhanced Games’ is a private initiative led by Australian businessman Aron D’Souza to hold an international sports competition in the style of the Olympic Games but which allows the use of doping substances.
On the other hand, the ‘Friendship Games’ is a multi-sport event that was created forty years ago by the Soviet Union to boycott the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and which Russia wants to bring back this year. avoid punishments of the International Olympic Committee.
While the ‘Friendship Games’ have been announced for September 2024 in Moscow, the ‘Enhanced Games’ could take place in 2025, although its exact date has not been confirmed.
