Sainz, from two weeks in bed to fighting for pole: “It can be reached”

Date:

Carlos Sainzlike other pilots Formula 1, is made of another dough. After just two weeks of suffering from appendicitis and surgery, the man from Madrid boarded Ferrari in the first free training sessions of Australian GP and finished third in the time table.

Although it is the first day of action, the sensations are so good physically and in terms of SF-24 performance that Sainz is already thinking about being able to fight to take the first pole of the season.

“First of all I am happy to be able to finish the day without problems. I’m obviously tired after spent almost two weeks in bed and recovering. The important thing is that I did the session without any problems, no illness” he explained to the DAZN microphones.

“Now is the time to recover well for tomorrow. Get back in shape and strengthtry to go for the pole, which seems within reach seeing how good Charles (Leclerc) is today,” he commented.

Ferrari suffered badly last year at Albert Park and came home without a single point on the board with Leclerc and Sainz retiring in 12th position. After the 2024 free practice session, the situation seems to have changed and the difference with Red Bull has nothing to do with what was seen in Bahrain and Jeddah.
