Maksimovic will play for Panathinaikos next season

Nemanja Maksimovic, Serbian midfielder for Getafewill play starting next season at Panathinaikos, as confirmed by the Greek club through an official statement. The player from the azulón team ended his contract in June and will not renew it, as its president Ángel Torres confirmed during Getafe’s win over Las Palmas at the weekend. LaLiga EA Sports.


Getafe will lose one of its most important players in recent times. Maksimovic has become a pillar in the middle of the field since the 2018/19 season, the year in which he joined the team led by José Bordalás from Valencia and in exchange for ten million euros.

Maksimovic, in six seasons, and in the final rounds of this season to be played, added a total of 213 official matches in which he scored nine goals and provided two assists.

The Serbian midfielder left his country in 2012 to play in the youth ranks of Hellas Verona. Before signing for Valencia in 2017, he was also part of Slovenian club Domzale and Kazakhstan’s Astana. After a decade away from Serbia, Maksimovic wanted a change of scenery and to be closer to his country.

Bordalás will lose a true football journeyman. Maksimovic, for six years, contributed a lot of muscle, kilometers, good physical presence, arrival and vision of the game. His absence will be very important for Getafewho now have to find a replacement.
