Brazil condemned the actions of Alves and Robinho in the face of social pressure

Date:

The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodriguesreferred to this Friday in the verdict for the rape of Robson de Souza’Robinho‘ and Daniel Alves as “one of the most damaging chapters of Brazilian football” and expressed his support for their victims.

“It is a shame that a player feels comfortable committing this kind of perversion, believing that what he has achieved through the sport will somehow protect him from any punishment,” the top CBF chief, who is in London, said in a note. with England.

Rodrigues’ statement came a day after Palmeiras president Leila Pereira, in her capacity as head of the CBF delegation during this national team break, condemned that “no one” from the world of football commented on the punishment Robinho and Dani Alves received for rape.

Rodrigues said today that “the two cases, involving players who are stars of the Brazilian national team, one of the greatest cultural icons” of the country, and that “cannot end with the conviction of the two perpetrators.” In her opinion, “it is important that the courageous attitude of the victims inspires more women not to remain silent in the face of such atrocities.”

In the case of the former Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan player, he entered prison on Thursday in Brazil to begin serving a nine-year prison sentence for participating in a gang-rape of an Albanian boy in a Milan nightclub in 2013. The Italian Justice strongly condemned him and on Wednesday the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil approved the sentence to be carried out in the country, as the Brazilian Constitution prohibits the extradition of its natural-born citizens.

For his part, Alves was sentenced for the first time by the Spanish Justice to four and a half years in prison for a crime of sexual assault, after sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona, December 2022. However, in the absence of a resolution of the appeals, the Court of Barcelona on Wednesday set him a bail of one million euros for his temporary release, money that he has been trying to collect ever since.

Neither the Brazilian clubs where the same player plays, nor the current or past Canarinha idols, have not commented on these cases, despite the growing demand from the press and social networks for them to do so.

The first to do this was Pereira: “No one says anything, but I, as a woman, here the head of the national team delegation, have to take a position. It’s a slap in the face for all of us women, especially the case of Daniel Alves, who paid for their freedom,” he denounced.

In the face of social pressure, Rodrigues pointed out that the sentences against Robinho and Alves “ended one of the most damaging chapters in Brazilian football.” “The CBF, all its leaders and the technical commission of the Brazilian team, stand in solidarity with the victims of two brutal crimes committed by former players,” he said.

Rodrigues acknowledged that “machismo prevails” in football and that men need to be “on the front line to fight not just sexual violence, but all kinds of violence.” He also emphasized that the ‘yellow’ shirt is more than a uniform and “it is up to those who wear it to defend the feelings and values of the country.”
