The Spanish boy Martin Landaluce (n.360) fell this Sunday at second round of the Miami Masters 1,000 (Florida) against the American Ben Shelton (n.17) by 6-3 and 6-4in one hour and 15 minutes
“That last move to deuce is what’s going to make you a great player,” praised Shelton, with a smile, as he greeted Landaluce at the net after the game.
Despite the loss, Landaluce, who received an invitation from Miami, closed a very special week at the Florida tournament, where on Thursday he achieved his first victory on the ATP circuit, defeating his compatriot Jaume Munar.
The 18-year-old from Madrid, Landaluce is the 2022 US Open junior champion and world junior number one.
Shelton is only three years older than Landaluce, but he has been an important name on the circuit since 2023 he was a semifinalist at the US Open and also champion in Tokyo.
Considered one of the most up-and-coming tennis players in the US, Shelton will face Italian Lorenzo Musetti (n.24) in the next match.
