Several metro stations in Paris woke up this Monday to have their names changedtransformed into variants with Olympic connotations, as a joke for April 1, which in France and other countries is equivalent to the Day of the Holy Innocents.
The busy Place de Nation station became ‘Natation’, the Trocadero station became ‘Trocanoë’ and of Crimée in ‘Escrimée’, among the best known examples.
The change is the work of employees of the metro network operating company, RATP.who confirmed on social networks that it was a joke for the first of April, taking advantage of the fact that the great event of 2024 in Paris is the Olympics that will be held this summer.
“This year, everyone is doing sports!“, RATP indicated on the social network X.
That transport company already performed this kind of pranks in early April, a tradition known in France as ‘Poisson d’avril’ (April fish, in its literal Spanish translation), where one of The most popular prank is secretly sticking a paper fish behind someone else’s back.
Other stops that have changed their name in tribute to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are those at Victor Hugo, now ‘Victor Judo’; Solférino, converted to ‘Surférino’, or to Alexandre Dumas, who became ‘Alexandre Dumarathon’.
