Nairo Quintana, doubtful for the Giro after tearing a ligament in his right arm

Date:

The Colombian climber from the Movistar team Nairo Quintana suffered a torn ligament in his right armtherefore He will miss the Tour of the Alps and his participation in the Giro d’Italia will be questioned already starting on May 4.

Movistar reported this on social networks, noting that Quintana “suffers an almost complete tear of the anterior sterno-clavicular ligament in his right arm.”

Quintana, 34 years old, withdrew on March 24 from the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya where he fell in the final stage held on the streets of Barcelona.

Initially it was said that the runner had suffered some scratches but now it has been confirmed the injury will keep the runner out of competition for several weeks.

“To ensure full recovery, Nairo will not compete in his next scheduled event, the Tour of the Alps (which will be held from the 15th to the 19th of this month). Its subsequent schedule will be communicated in the near future,” the team detailed.

The team did not report whether the runner would undergo surgery or not. To recover from this type of injury, the runner needs at least four weeks.

Eusebio Unzué, general director of Movistar, said at the end of last year that Quintana and fellow Colombian Einer Rubio were eligible to join the team for the Giro d’Italia.

Quintana, who returned to the Movistar discipline this season after his time with Arkéa Samsic, returned to competition at the Tour Colombia in February after a one-year break.
