“In the fall of Itzulia I touched death”

This is the Belgian case Steff Crass, who gave an interview to ‘La Dernière Heure’, his country’s sports newspaper. Cras was the most seriously injured in the accident.

The 28-year-old cyclist left the San Sebastián hospital where he was admitted on Monday to be transferred to the Herentals hospital, in Belgium, where he will continue his recovery. He suffered a pneumothorax, several broken ribs and two broken vertebrae.

Cras explains how he experienced the fall. “For thirty seconds I couldn’t breathe. I felt like I was going to die. Afterwards, it was like only one lung was working.”, he detailed. “I felt like I was thrown off the bike like a soccer ball being hit,” the cyclist described. His goal is to recover to be ready for the Tour de France which starts on June 29.
