This is what the Spanish canoeing team for the Paris Olympic Games looks like after the elite competitions

Date:

The Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation The Spanish selective was conducted over the weekend for Paris 2024 Olympic Games in slalom canoeing. This Friday the national selection of calm water canoeing. This is the situation in which the two national teams remain facing each other at the Paris Games.

CANOEING IN CALM WATERS: 15 classified (for now, because it can go down to 14. 12 of them are nominal)

Nominal places achieved (the maximum number of kayakers by gender and country is six). 12 fixed classifieds

-K1-1000: Paco Cubelos

-K2-500: Adrián del Río and Rodrigo Germade

-K4-500: Saúl Craviotto, Carlos Arévalo, Marcus Cooper Walz and Rodrigo Germade

-C1-200: Antía Jácome

-C2-500: Antía Jácome and María Corbera

-K4-500: Sara Ouzande, Estefanía Fernández, Carolina García and Teresa Portela

Non-nominal areas obtained. Their job will be decided in a head-to-head match at the Szeged World Cup (from May 10 to 12, with a place for the best Spanish boat among the candidates):

-C2-500: In the last selection the place will be played by Cayetano García de la Borbolla and Pablo Martínez (they got the place) and Joan Antoni Moreno and Diego Domínguez (they won the first choice)

-K1-500: In the last selection the place will be played for Isabel Contreras (she got the place) and Estefanía Fernández (she won the first choice)

The fact that Estefanía Fernández already has a place in K4 means that the number added to that nominal 12 can be between 2 and 3 classified.

Places still up for grabs

-At the qualification level, the 2024 Pre-Olympic Championship (May 8 and 9) remains. Spain will be looking for places in two modalities where it has not yet, with two spots at stake in the men’s C1-1000 (Pablo Crespo will go) and two more in the women’s K2-500 (Laia Pelachs and Begoña Lazkano will go).

-If the K2-500 is classified and Isabel Contreras wins the final internal selection of the K1-500, there will be seven female kayakers to be classified and one athlete must be thrown in the boat configuration to not exceed the maximum allowed at the international level.

-Similarly, athletes classified in kayaks and canoe boats can double with a second Spanish boat in events with fewer members as long as there is an Olympic place in those distances. That is, as examples, a member of the male K4 can double in trials with fewer parts in the boat (Marcus Cooper Walz, for example, is already open here) or a second female C1-200 can be thrown. But, at the moment, a women’s K2-500 cannot run with the K4 girls because there is no place obtained in that first modality. Everything will be subject to internal criteria and the final call.

SLALOM CANOEING: 4 classified

Nominal areas achieved

Pau Echaniz (K1), Miquel Travé (C1 and extreme), Maialen Chourraut (K1 and extreme) and Miren Lazkano (C1).

Non-nominal areas achieved

Spain has two more places in the extreme, one for each gender, but waiting to see who fills them. This is where the World Pre-Olympic kayak cross extreme (June 7-9) comes into play.

Since Spain is guaranteed to participate with two athletes per gender in this modality, what is at stake in the Spanish pre-Olympic is who occupies second place.

So, if a Spaniard can finish in the places (there are three places for each gender), it can be occupied by any Spanish canoeist because the place is for the country, which will open the doors to having more people in the Game. classified athletes (third by gender). If it does not end in the Pre-Olympic places, only those classified in other events (Echaniz and Lazkano, therefore) can occupy the second places in the kayak cross.
