London Marathon 2024: Schedules and where to watch live

More than 65,000 people will run this Sunday, April 21 in the new edition of London Marathonthe third ‘Major’ of the year and one of the most important in the calendar because of its popularity, its impact and the very high level of athletes competing there.

This year the race will have a very competitive elite who will attempt to beat the women’s world record, with three of the four women who have run the fastest 42K in history. Among the men the level will also be very high, with nine runners with times under 2h05.

In addition, it is one of the most inclusive events in the world. This is the first marathon equivalent of awards of the adapted athletes and the other athletes, with a reward of up to 55,000 dollars (about €52,000) for the winners of all races.

Hugh Brasherdirector of the London Marathon, said: “What we have is an incredible event and more inclusive than ever. We are supporting more than 200 disabled participants. We are trialling a new initiative this year, which aims to further expand to 2026.”

A very competitive elite

The main figure of the 2024 London Marathon is the world record holder at the distance, the Ethiopian Tigist Assefawho will try to lower his impressive mark of 2h11:53 achieved last September in Berlin.

His main rival is the Kenyan Brigid Kosgeiformer world record holder, who arrived in London at the age of 30 and clocked 2h14:04, the third fastest ever.

Kenyans are also on the list of favourites Ruth Chepngetichfourth fastest woman ever, and the current Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchirin addition to Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualawwinner in London in 2022.

Among men, one of the main favorites is Ethiopian Tamirat Tola, world champion in 2022 and current New York Marathon champion. His countrymen will accompany him Mosinet Geremewseventh fastest man in history with 2h02:55, and by Kenyan Alexander Mutiso Munyaosecond in the last edition of the Valencia marathon with 2h03:11.

Also here are many track champions and the third fastest man ever, Kenenisa Bekelewho in 2023 ran the Valencia marathon in 2h04:19 at the age of 41 and set a new world masters record.
