Iraola put Bournemouth in the noble zone

Date:

Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth can now boast of being among the top ten in the Premier League. They beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1 on Wednesday, thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s goal, and moved up to tenth place, with 45 points.

Iraola also won the ‘derby’ against Gary O’Neill, the coach Bournemouth fired last summer to sign him. While there is no ill feeling between the two coaches, Wednesday’s victory at the Molineux Stadium was a demonstration that the Bournemouth board was right to bet on the Spaniard, with the club having gone from fighting for non-relegation to being closer to Europe than relegation to the Championship.

Sixth place, currently held by Newcastle United, is eight points away, while relegation, marked by Luton Town, is twenty points away.

The victory against Wolves was possible thanks to Semenyo, the man with eight goals in this Premier League, taking advantage of a poorly cleared ball in the area to make it 0-1. The ‘Cherries’ suffered, playing the final twenty minutes with a man down due to the dismissal for Milos Kerkez’s straight red card and saw a goal disallowed against Wolves in the 101st minute for offside, but they came away with three points from Wolverhampton who legitimized Iraola’s job.

Wolves, who are also not in danger of relegation, are in twelfth place with 43 points.
