Brazilian Luana, diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Date:

The midfielder Luana Bertoluccime, Brazilian national team player and the Orlando PriAmerican, announced Monday that he has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that attacks the immune system, and that he will undergo chemotherapy.

“After conducting detailed examinations in recent weeks, I have been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I will undergo chemotherapy treatment and I am counting on your support and prayers,” the 30-year-old soccer player said in a message he published on his Instagram account.

Last year’s Brazilian champion with Corinthians said that, as a professional, he has faced and overcome many challenges on and off the field, and it will be no different with cancer, which he will face “with courage and determination. “

The midfielder took advantage of the message to thank the “unconditional support” that the Brazilian team and Orlando Pride have already offered him, and to ask for respect for his privacy for now.

Luana started his professional career in 2011 as a player for São Paulo and in 2015 he was transferred to Norwegian Avaldsnes.

He also spent time at clubs such as Korean Hwacheon KSP and the French Paris Saint-Germain before returning to Brazil last year to strengthen Corinthians, where he won the 2023 League title.

Last December he signed for the Orlando Pride, where he had as a teammate the Brazilian attacker Marta, voted six times as the best soccer player in the world and with whom he shared several call-ups with Canary.

Luana has played in two World Cups with the Brazilian team, where she was last called up in March to play in the SheBelieves tournament in the United States. However, he was removed before the tournament for “personal reasons.”

The disease diagnosed is the same disease that former Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, champion of the 1994 World Cup with Brazil, has been suffering for seven months.
