French tennis player Benoit Paire announced on Monday a pause of “indefinite duration” after losing in the first round of the tournament Stuttgart (Germany) before the italian Lorenzo Sonego by 7-5 and 6-2.
Paire, 33, suffered his fifteenth loss of the season and immediately shared a photo on his Instagram account showing himself depressed, sitting on a bench with his hands on his head. “Tennis breaks indefinitely,” he added.
Prior to Stuttgart, Paire was eliminated in the first round at Roland Garros by Belarusian Ilya Ivashka. Aside from his two qualifying wins at the Mutua Madrid Open in early May, he has only won three matches in 2022: two at the Australian Open in January and the last in Geneva in mid -May.
In the spring of 2020 it was ranked 19th in the world and is now 80th.
