Guiomar Maristany, in the quarterfinals of the Catalonia Open WTA 125 in Lleida

Date:

Catalan Guiomar Maristany reached the quarterfinals of the Catalonia Open WTA 125–Terres de Lleida International Tournament, played on clay at Club Tennis Lleida.

Maristany benefited from the withdrawal of her rival, Serbian Dejana Radanovic. The rivalry started evenly, with the first game of maximum intensity making it clear the misunderstanding that would exist between the two. The tennis players showed their best version, until with 6/5 in favor of the Catalan tennis player, the Serbian decided to retire due to physical discomfort.

Not so lucky was the American Sofia Kenin, who bowed out of the tournament after a contested match against her compatriot Ashlyn Krueger (6/3 5/7 7/5).

With the match lasting more than two hours, Krueger was more solid and consistent on the court, unlike Kenin, who was inaccurate in decisive moments.

The top four seeds did not disappoint. Emma Navarro, top favorite, eliminated the finalist of the first edition, Elizabeth Mandlik, who could not resist the aggressive and flat play from the baseline of her American compatriot (6/4 6/1).

Katerina Siniakova, Arantxa Rus and Magdalena Frech also advanced after defeating Lina Gjorcheska, Erika Andreeva and Lea Boskovic, respectively.

The Egyptian Mayor Sherif and the Colombian Camila Osorio are also going strong in Lleida. They have removed Ana Bogdan and Lucija Ciric Bagaric.
