Maradona’s children requested that the body be moved to a mausoleum

Date:

The children of Diego Maradona They presented this Thursday before Argentine Justice a request to move the body of the former soccer player “to a safer place” and for fans to “pay tribute” in a mausoleum. Maradona’s remains lie in a private cemetery outside Buenos Aires, where he was moved in November 2020 in a massive funeral procession. Only family members are allowed to enter the cemetery.

The mausoleum, called the ‘Memorial del Diez’, is located behind the Casa Rosada, headquarters of the executive branch of the Argentine government, and will be open to the public, Verónica Ojeda, mother of Maradona’s youngest son, told the local media.

“All the heirs request by common agreement that the transfer be allowed to their next destination of eternal rest (…) in a safer place than the present,” said the note presented to the court that signed by Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, and Ojeda representing Diego Maradona Jr. “And so that all citizens of Argentina and citizens of the world can pay tribute to our father who is the greatest idol of Argentina.”

The transfer will take place around October 30, the date of birth of the 1986 world champion in Argentina, one of the family’s lawyers told reporters. Maradona died at the age of 60 in November 2020 due to a heart attack. Fans of Napoli and the Argentine national team worshiped him as the “god of football.”
