These are the topics that will be central main headlines from next Friday May 3, 2024:

– Accreditations of parliamentarians: The parliamentarians elected in the April 21 elections will begin to be accredited to the Basque Parliament this Friday, after completing the process of their proclamation by the territorial electoral councils without resources. Today it is the turn of Sumar parliamentarian Jon Hernández (11 a.m.) and Vox representative Amaia Martínez (12 p.m.). However, the deadlines for the composition of the new Basque parliament only start running on Monday. On May 6, once the 27 elected members of the PNV have been accredited – more than a third of the parliamentarians – the House will be established within fifteen days.

Anchovy and Verdel campaign: The Acting Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment, Arantxa Tapia, will present preliminary data on anchovy and greenfish catches in the framework of the Antxua Eguna of Getaria at 11:00 am. Also present at the press conference are the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Policy of the Basque Government Bittor Oroz, the Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Leandro Azkue, the Mayor of Getaria Haritz Alberdi, the President of the Fishermen’s Guild of Getaria, Emeterio Urresti and the presidents of the confraternities of Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, Eugenio Elduayen and Eusebio Arantzamendi, respectively.

World Press Freedom Day: The NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has warned of ‘growing pressure’ from political actors on the media and journalists, at the expense of independence, information quality and pluralism. The Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland), with the exception of Iceland, are among the top eight and, together with the Netherlands, Estonia, Portugal and Ireland, achieve the best rating in the latest RSF report.
