Saving electricity with a solar system – that’s what many people want! The high-speed business with photovoltaic systems is booming: but many suspect that there is a system behind some customer scammers!
Corona and the energy crisis caused demand for photovoltaic panels to explode, but at the same time there was a supply bottleneck and too few installers. There was a gold rush atmosphere in the market and consumer advocates never tired of warning about failures, bankruptcies and shady sales companies.
Lost more than 40,000 euros
Jakob Schestak, boss of Hotel Waldhof in Gerlos in Tyrol’s Zillertal, had no luck choosing the provider. The system, which was partially completely demolished, had to be dismantled after the first winter.
The Zillertaler can be happy that his entire three-star hotel did not burn down completely. The first burn marks could already be seen in several places. “I lost more than 40,000 euros and had to pay much more for the dismantling,” says the hotel owner angrily and does not understand why the provider did not withdraw long ago. Ultimately, his neighbor and many others would have been scammed.
Additional costs for “real” electricians
A “Krone” reader in Pettneu am Arlberg also had a similar experience to Schestak. “The former owner quickly sold the company and the unsuspecting employee who was appointed director is in personal bankruptcy. “The woman previously had to serve as commercial manager,” says the Oberlander, who felt that the installation of his failed PV system not only cost him a lot of nerves.
There were additional costs for a ‘real’ electrician and according to his own statements the man was also deprived of financing.
“That is precisely the disadvantage of the boom. Many unsuspecting people see a quick deal. There were probably many scammers like this, especially back then, when electricity costs rose significantly and supply chains were disrupted,” the Oberlander points out.
