Violent clashes between Rosario Central fans and the police

Date:

Fans of Central Rosary and the police staged a violent confrontation outside the Gigante de Arroyito stadium before the match of Libertadores Cup played behind closed doors Atlético Mineiro won in the end 0-1.

The match on the fourth day of Group G, which left the Brazilian team as the first classified in the round of 16, was played without an audience in the stands due to the sanction from Conmebol for the incidents recorded at the same stage in end of the match of the first date against Peñarol.

The bus transporting the Rosario team, which needs to win today to stay in the qualifying zone for the top sixteen stage, was greeted by members of the organized bars. The crowd was interrupted by mounted police, who suppressed the fans.

Sticks, tear gas and rubber bullets added tension to the scenes recorded along Parque Alem and the main avenue leading to the Rosario city stadium. Witnesses consulted by local media agreed in accusing the authorities of overreacting to fans who wanted to encourage the players before playing behind closed doors.

Fernando Peverengo, Secretary of Sports Security of the Province of Santa Fe, whose capital is Rosario, supported the operation of the authorities. He said that the fans were standing in front of the bus and at a certain point the security force’s property was in danger, and that is why they believed it was appropriate to break up the demonstration.
