He port of Marseille (France), where this afternoon the Olympic flame of Paris 2024 Gameswoke up amid massive security measures, completely fenced off since dawn and with restricted access, according to TVE correspondent Mavi Doñate on his ‘X’ social network account.
The Olympic torch was lit Greece last month and left Athens on a ship called Belem direction of France. After 12 days at sea, it will arrive this afternoon in the port of Marseille, where more than a thousand boats are expected to join Belem in the city’s bay to celebrate its arrival.
There will be a welcome ceremony that will include a demonstration by the jets of the Patrouille de France, the aerobatic team of the French air forces.
Olympic swimmer Florent Manaudou was chosen to be the first bearer of the flame on French soil. Manaudou has won four Olympic medals and is the brother of swimmer Laure Manaudou, who won three Olympic medals in Athens 2004 and represented France at the flame lighting ceremony on April 16.
