It is already the third day of protests by the Last Generation in Vienna. On Wednesday morning, despite rain showers, several activists again blocked the streets during early morning traffic. This time Matzleinsdorfer Platz and the busy A23 were hit. The glue was again part of the disruption.
From 8 a.m. the actions of both activists caused large traffic jams. The police quickly returned to the scene to quell the protests. Nevertheless, the delays caused chaos on the roads. The new wave of protests in Vienna has already caused some surprises in the past two days.
New protests
This time not only glue was used, but also paint buckets that were emptied in front of the entrance of a supermarket chain to draw attention to the food shortage caused by the climate crisis. “Right to affordable food. Right to survive. Right to climate protection,” they later stated on social media. All three people involved were temporarily arrested on Monday.
“Fire alarm” on Tuesday
A ‘fire alarm’ was sounded at 4:30 am on Tuesday to loudly draw attention to the climate crisis. “We are the fire alarm of a sleeping and oppressive society,” she said in a broadcast. A few hours later, the glue was used on the street in Penzing, causing chaos in early morning traffic.
Demands of the last generation
Climate protesters demand an end to new oil and gas drilling. As a direct measure for better air quality and lower CO2 emissions, they want speeds of 100 km/h on the highway.
