The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE), winner of the Giro time trial and pink jersey, said his advantage in the time trial was that the last 6-kilometer climbing stretch to the Perugia finish line was convenient for him.
“I know that climbing suits me, certainly more than my rivals. That was my advantage on the climb, especially since it was quite steep,” the Giro leader explained at the finish line.
Pogacar, who has differences in the overall standings of 2.36 minutes and 2.46 over Colombian Daniel Martínez and Welshman Geraint Thomas, was proud of his time.
“I feel great. After last year’s World Championship, today is my first race with a time trial bike again. There is a lot of preparation for this exam. and there were many ups and downs from last year in the time trial, so I’m very happy that I felt good today,” he said.
The Pogacar goes from less to more, until it makes a definite and powerful difference when facing the climb to the finish line.
“I started at a more comfortable pace, I had to get used to the time trial bike. Then I went uphill and gave it my all until the finish line. “I’m so happy today.”he concluded.
