Novak Djokovic debuted this Friday at second round of Rome Masters 1000 with a comfortable victory over the French Corentin Moutet. The Serbian won 6-3 and 6-1 in a match where only in the initial part did he show any doubt.
Djokovic set the tone from the back of the court, moving with his forehand and backhand, alternating long and short balls and constantly forcing the French player to relinquish the initiative. So, they had no problem dominating the exchanges and signing a comfortable pass to the third round in less than an hour and a half of the game.
Moutet never looked comfortable on the court, especially on his second serve. Djokovic’s lips They pressured him again and again, without giving him the option of gaining meters from which to attack the Serbian, who found a way to advance unscathed in the third round.
Everything, even Djokovic started the match with doubts. The Serbian gave up his first two service games. He got one back in between, but it took him a few minutes to settle on the court to start showing off his tennis. A sign, in other words, of a month of inactivity in tournaments, as he has not played since losing to Casper Ruud in the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000.
Once the first round is resolved, Djokovic will face a second round match Alejandro Tabilo, in what was his first duel against the Chilean on the circuit. Thirty seconds in the world, Tabilo is having his best season to date, despite his irregularity, since he was proclaimed champion at the beginning of the year on the hard court in Auckland and won the Aix-en-Provence Challenger a few days ago the past.
