The Chileans Alejandro Tabilo and Nicolás Jarry They made history on Tuesday at the Rome Masters 1,000 after defeating Russian Karen Khachanov and Frenchman Alexandre Muller, respectively.
No two Chileans have ever reached the quarterfinals of the same Masters 1,000 during the ‘Open’ era. And they both achieved it, clearly surpassing their rivals.
First up was Tabilo, in what was his first appearance in the round of 16, by forcefully defeating Khachanov, 7-6 (5) and 7-6 (10), and shortly after Jarry prevailed to complete the historic day.
Jarry will be competing in the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters 1,000 for the third time in his career, although it will be his first on clay. Tabilo, on the other hand, is facing an unknown land.
Of that number, Jarry is the Chilean with the most quarterfinal appearances. The first in the ranking is Marcelo Rios (19), the second Fernando González (13) and in third place, tied, Cristian Garín and Nicolás Jarry (3).
In the quarterfinals, Tabilo will face Babaor Zhinzhen Zhangwhile Jarry awaits a rival, who will emerge from the rivalry between the Greeks Stefanos Tsitsipas and the Australian Alex de Minaur.
Furthermore, they will only cross paths in the hypothetical finale.
