“You say the opposite, but I’m still a member of the PGA Tour. Suspended or not, I still want to support the PGA Tour and I think it’s an important distinction to make.” Jon Rahm made his position very clear in the press conference before the start of the PGA Tour, words that didn’t seem to suit everyone.
His signing for LIV Golf, the controversial and million dollar Saudi circuit, made many enemies who is not shy to question his words.
One of them is Arron Oberholser. The former player and now commentator on ‘The Golf Channel’ viciously attacked the former world number 1.
“You’re going to tell me you feel like you’re still a member of the PGA Tour. I want to wring his neck on TV, I’m so mad right now. I am angry. Take 500 million and you will sit there and to say that you still feel like a member of the PGA Tour… Every player in that PGA Tour locker room should be absolutely disgusted with him,” he said angrily.
In its part, Tiger Woods, who was also present at the PGA Championship, offered more light on how the negotiations with LIV Golf. The former world number 1 is the director of the PGA Tour board which is trying to reach an agreement with the Saudi Investment Fund (PIF).
“We are working on negotiations. It’s something that goes on, it’s fluid, it changes every day. “We are making steps and they may not be giant steps, but we are making steps,” said Woods, who is rumored to be the next captain of the United States Ryder Cup team.
“We’re still talking, nothing confirmed yet, we’re still working out what that will look like.. Plus, whether I have time to do it or not, I have to feel like I can give it all the time it deserves,” Tiger added.
