“That was my worst experience as a coach”

Date:

Ange Postecoglou, The Tottenham coach revealed on Friday that he had a cold sweat before the Premier League match his team lost on Tuesday against Manchester City (0-2) for fear that his integrity would be questioned.

The days leading up to the match were marked by comments from Tottenham fans expressing their desire for their team to lose to prevent their eternal rivals, Arsenal, from winning the Premier League.

Tottenham lost, City became leaders

Tottenham lost the said pending match and this way City became leaders, two points ahead of Arsenal, so by defeating West Ham on Sunday at the Etihad they will be proclaimed Premier champions for the fourth time on the last day.

On the other hand, if Tottenham beat City, Arsenal would still be top and it would be enough for them to beat Everton at the Emirates to win their first Premier League since 2004. Now the Gunners must win and hope the Citizens don’t.

He caused a stir with his statements

Postecoglou became emotional after the match and caused a stir when he appeared to criticize Tottenham fans and suggested he was “out of step” with their feelings about Arsenal. He also spoke “the fragile foundation” of Tottenham.

A few days later, Postecoglou was asked again about Tuesday’s match before facing Sunday’s final matchday, where Tottenham visit bottom-placed Sheffield United and drop Sheffield United with a need to add a draw to secure fifth last place and access to the Europa League.

The worst experience

“I’ll try to explain it this way, it’s probably the worst experience I’ve had as a football coach in a game because I realized I was wrong about what the atmosphere would be like and how people felt,” Postecoglou said this in a press conference.

“I felt real anxiety about what would happen if Manchester City, who are the best team in the world and easily put teams away and scored 15/16 goals in the last four games, What would have happened if we played our best but got beaten 5-0?”explained the Australian coach.

“I’m in a cold sweat thinking about people questioning my integrity and the people I work with,” he concluded.
