New setback for Raducanu at Roland Garros

Date:

Emma Raducanu withdrew from the qualification stage at Roland Garros and will focus on training for the grass and hard court seasons.

The 21-year-old tennis player is expected to try to overcome three rounds of the qualifying phaseas he did to win the US Open in 2021. But the British tennis player, instead, surprisingly withdrew from the clay court tournament.

It is important for me to continue laying the foundation and I will use the time to make a healthy block before the grass season and on the last hard court to give me a chance to stay fit for the rest of the year,” he said.

Raducanu entered the tournament at his protected rank of 103, but He was left three places outside the main draw and ruled for a wild card.

The British woman started the clay court season on the right footafter defeating the French Caroline Garcia and Diane Parry and Great Britain qualified for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, and reached the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart tournament.

Raducanu dismissed Iga Swiatek in the round of 16, but then had a poor performance against Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle in the first round in Madrid last month, due to exhaustion.

Since then he never played again and has withdrawn from the Strasbourg WTA tournament this weekbut this latest withdrawal is still a big surprise.
